Exploring the mechanical and bacterial prospects of flexible polyurethane foam with chitosan

Abstract In this work, chitosan (CT) with different ratios (0–5 wt.%) was utilized as a bio filler in polyurethane flexible (PUF) foam to increase mechanical performance and bacterial inhibition characteristics. The chemical structure of CT foam/ (PUF/CT) composites examined using FTIR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the cross-link density PUF/CT Flory Rhener equation. Moreover, composites’ thermal stability observed utilizing TGA analysis. Further, morphology phase behavior were investigated SEM DSC techniques, respectively. results showed that density, stability, cavities sizes, glass transition temperature soft segments T g(ss) increased wt.% content. Besides, characteristics like apparent compressive strength, elongation at break, tensile strength tested. indicated by 128.00% 305.64% for PUF/CT5%, respectively, compared unfilled PUF foam. At same time, break enhanced 162.50% 174.30% PUF/CT4%, Finally, antibacterial test carried out broth dilution procedure. revealed growth inhibited increasing Thus, obtained are promising industrial biological applications such packaging medical intensive care units.
